DEFLORIN Arthur Richard Deflorin, 75, died March 23 [at his home in Jacksonville. Mr. DeFlorin was born in Jacksonville in 1939. He graduated high school from Fletcher High and earned a BS degree from Jacksonville University. His entire professional life was spent at IBM, where he retired. Richard lived in Jacksonville all his life as a bachelor, living life to the fullest. His self-sacrificing character and warm, inviting, humorous personality will be remembered by all. He is survived by his sister Carol Cassetta of Waynesville, Georgia, niece and adopted daughter (sharing guardianship with his sister), Lisa Levesque and her husband Stuart Levesque of Jacksonville. Other relatives include various cousins and their families in Jacksonville and other cities.
Sally DeEVANE Hanson, 74, died December 3, 2015.
Memorial services will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, 400 Penman Road in Neptune Beach, FL on Monday, January 11 at 11:00 AM. On December 3, 2015, Sally DeVane Hanson, age 74, died peacefully at home. Born in Atlanta to Mary Stephens DeVane and Richard DeVane, she grew up in Jacksonville Beach and graduated from Fletcher High School and the University of Florida. She married and moved to Sarasota but returned to Jacksonville with her infant daughter to escape an abusive marriage. Moving ahead, she taught public school, earned an MBA degree from UNF, and went to work for Prudential Insurance. In 1976 she transferred to that company’s Pennsylvania headquarters where she served in a managerial position until her retirement. In 1991 Sally married her husband Gabriel. They resided in Langhorne, Pennsylvania until he retired, then traveled for a year before settling near Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and became a newspaperwoman. In 2006 they moved to the Beaches, where she rejoined her Fletcher circle, played tennis and bridge, volunteered in the offices of Beaches Habitat for Humanity, and edited two books for a local author. She took special delight in joining her classmates to organize their fiftieth high school class reunion. Sally is survived by her husband Gabriel; her daughter Laura (David) Varsik, grandsons Alex and Jarrett; stepdaughter Elinor (Dr. Mark) Kostic and their three children, Emily, Sarah, and Ian; her brother Richard (Ann) DeVane; and her sister-in-law Judith Wessing. Sally was devoted to her sister, Deane DeVane Brown, who predeceased her. Two aunts survive, Lecy Stephens and Beverly Stephens, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Sally and Dottie S. Gross were “sister cousins”. Sally will be remembered for her loyal, caring nature. A memorial service will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, 400 Penman Rd., Neptune Beach, at a time and date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Beaches Habitat for Humanity, 797 Mayport Road, Atlantic Beach, FL 32233.

A graveside service was held Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at H.Warren Smith Cemetery, Jacksonville Beach, at 3:00 P.M. Arrangements under the direction of Hardage-Giddens Beaches Chapel, Jacksonville Beach, FL. Carol Head is survived by her two children, David and Ainsley, four grandchildren, and three brothers.

Carolyn Strickland Bundy, 71, passed away on Wednesday, March 27th, 2013. She was born and raised in Jacksonville Beach, where she received her early education in Duval County Schools, graduating from Fletcher Senior High School in 1959. Furthering her education, she attended St. Leo's College in San Antonio, Florida. Carolyn was a lifelong member of St. Pauls Catholic Church. She was predeceased by her husband of 33 years, Nathan S. Bundy, and is survived by her daughter, Elaine Richard (Chris) of Jacksonville, and her grandsons, Christian Potter and Matthew Potter. Carolyn was a retired Licensed Insurance Representative with State Farm, and she was a former president of the Jacksonville Beach American Business Women's Association, where she was named Business Woman of The Year. She enjoyed traveling with her family and friends, rooting for the Seminoles, and volunteering in the community. Most recently, she was a graduate of the Jacksonville Beach Citizen's Police Academy and volunteered with the local Beach Patrol. Carolyn was adored and beloved as an amazing mother, grandmother, and friend. Her kind, caring, and loving ways will be missed by all who knew her.
